Anthony Barbera was born in San Rafael, California.  He earned his degree in music composition from North Carolina School of the Arts University. Later he worked upon his Masters in Music Composition at the University of Massachusetts where he also earned a teaching fellowship while winning numerous music composition awards. During graduate studies in London, as well as in Berlin, he began to realize that his first love was writing words, more than musical notes.

   He began his first screenplay in 1991 while continuing to complete music compositions for film and documentary projects. In 1996 he was asked to co-write and direct the first "young peoples’" film  X-Marks the Spot for the Sonoma Valley Film Festival.

   His novels, in order of publication, are: Catching Baby Moses (2007), The First Rains of October (2009), and Jonah—In the Time of the Kings (2010). Screen plays completed by Anthony include, An American Psalm as well as an adaptation for the big-screen of his novel Catching Baby Moses.

Anthony has two children, Jennifer (born in 1985) and Blake (1987). He lives with his wife Cynthia in Glen Ellen, California not far from Jack London’s former homestead, where Anthony and Cynthia regularly hike.
